Partnership - Colombia
Universidad de Los Andes
Sport is a growing industry in Colombia, and there is a growing interest in strengthening and promoting its development. However, very little academic and policy work is done on the structure of the industry. The SEMASC project will allow, for the first time, learning, studying and helping amateur sports clubs that currently lack governmental and private support. The economics department of the Universidad de Los Andes (UNIANDES), in particular, seeks to advance the understanding of socio-economic issues through training and will review the structure of amateur sports clubs in a selection of Colombian cities to understand their strengths and weaknesses. The objective, through the SEMASC project, is to help design a pedagogical kit that aids amateur sport clubs to offer the appropriate materials to enable them to grow in the local context. The university will engage its network of sports institutions across the country.
